Robert and I ran a publicity stand at The Hanleys Village Show (the 71st) on Saturday 24 August. A rainy morning gave way to a sunny and blustery afternoon on the playing field behind Hanley Swan Village Hall, where we set up shop amongst the car booters. We explained what we offer as a society, gave advice, handed out leaflets and chatted to people about their connection to the Malverns, their families, houses and childhood memories. Robert had artfully placed two chairs by our table so customers could sit down, relax and keep talking.

The show’s competition classes took place in the village hall for those willing to exhibit their flowers, vegetables, fruit, cakes, jams and artistic efforts. Local sellers were stationed in the car park offering for sale jams, chutneys, cakes, pies and plants.

The Single Reed Wind Band supplied music and the refreshments room was selling drinks, cakes and savouries even before the event officially opened. An ice cream van can’t have had much stock left by the end of the afternoon judging by the number of people walking round the car boot area with cornets and iced lollies.

We had a very pleasant time as we always do on these occasions. The Hanleys Village Show is not a large event but always enjoyable and worth a visit.

Our next event will be at Malvern Wells Village Fete & Classic Car Show on Sunday 8 September. Do drop by our stand and say hello if you are visiting.
