The Lloyd George Domesday & National Farm Survey
A talk given by Gill Blanchard. ONLY ON ZOOM.
Gill is a full-time historical researcher, professional genealogist, house historian and author with an academic background. She has published a number of books and articles of interest to the family historian. For more details see her website https://www.pastsearch.co.uk.
In this evening’s talk she will describe two major data sets and explain how you can make use of them. The Inland Revenue Valuation Office Survey of 1910-1920 is often referred to as the Lloyd George Domesday Survey. It combines residential data and maps to help you find, for example, the location of your ancestor’s house even if it no longer exists.
The National Farm Survey of England and Wales was conducted during 1941-43, the aim being to collect information on every farm over five acres for use in post-war planning. Details of farmers, farm owners, land type and usage are included.
