Our member, Dominika Nala, is doing a Masters Degree in “The History of the Family” at the University of Limerick. As part of this she is undertaking a dissertation research project into how people practise family history in everyday life with the use of material objects. The aim is to examine how items that previously belonged to deceased relatives continue to play a role in individual family practices (e.g. how they are discussed, used, and passed on), and whether there are differences across generations in the approach to the history and meaning of these objects.
As part of this research, she has a survey she would like us to complete. You can participate if you own such a material object or know of one in your family – this will determine the set of questions you will see. You will only be asked about ONE object of your choice.
TO TAKE THE SURVEY, PLEASE VISIT: https://unioflimerick.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3Ieo0bAon0JERD0
OR IF YOU NEED TO TYPE THE LINK IN, USE: bit.ly/familyobjects (Bitly provides a convenient way of shortening links but sometimes shows an additional preview page – just click ‘Continue to destination’).
It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete this survey (26 questions).
This survey will remain open until 11.45 pm (GMT) on Sunday, 17 May 2026.
Dominika thanks you in anticipation!
