Voices of the past: the origins and meanings of local place names
1 March @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Mike Jenkins will explore the origins and meanings of local place names.
Mike is a retired medical doctor and amateur historian. He has been interested in the forms and diversity of place names for many years on encountering such Worcestershire villages as Upton Snodsbury, Wyre Piddle, Timberhonger Lane and The Vigo.
He was due to give a talk on place names to the Hanbury History Group in March 2020 but was beaten four days before by The Lockdown! He thus started to write and publish his book ‘The History of Place Names in England and Worcestershire – The Voices of the Past’, which has sold over 450 copies in the county to date and more on the internet.
At the Eden Centre and online.
