SUMMARY:Walk: Exploring Barnards Green History
DESCRIPTION:History with a Gentle Walk …\nWe will be meeting in person on Saturday 10th September 2022 for a walk through the area of Malvern known as Barnards Green. This includes the present day Barnards Green and down to Guarlford. It is an area full of history including: \nLearn how the shops area of Barnards Green developed \n\nWhere Barnards Green actually is\nSaxon and early Medieval Malvern\nGuarlford\, including their history exhibition\nWood Street – the prehistoric trackway\nA WWII listening station\nVictorian Mill\nCoffee break (bring your own refreshments)\n\nThe circular walk is about 5 miles and mostly flat. There are no stiles to climb. We expect the walk to take 3 hours\, depending on how much time we spend investigating the various locations. \nThe walk is timed to coincide with the Heritage Open Days events in Guarlford where the parish church and village hall will be open to view. There is also an exhibition of local history there. More info here \nHow to join the walk on 10th September\nWe will meet at 10am ‘prompt’ by the War Memorial in Barnards Green\, Malvern (next to the bus shelter). Parking is available on the roads nearby. \nStout footwear will be required and suitable weather gear. SUMMARY:Visit to St Fagans
DESCRIPTION:St Fagans is an open-air heritage attraction near Cardiff which has a variety of buildings on display from around Wales. People can visit buildings including a woollen mill\, ironworkers’ cottages\, a Victorian country school and an Anderson air raid shelter\, as well as watching blacksmiths\, bakers and clog-makers demonstrate traditional skills. Last year the museum completed its ‘Making History’ project\, a £30 million redevelopment to become Wales’ National Museum of History\, opening new galleries and workshop spaces. \nPraised for living\, breathing and embodying the culture of Wales\, St Fagans has been named the UK’s museum of the year. \nIf you are interested in joining us\, please let Mike Taylor know as soon as possible. The moated stately home which has been in the Lygon family for nearly 900 years and is currently home to the 29th generation of that family. SUMMARY:Visit to the Black Country Museum
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a day our exploring the heritage of the Black Country\nWe are planning a trip to the Black Country Living Museum at Dudley on Wednesday 10 October. This award-winning corner of the West Midlands is now one of the finest and largest open-air museums in the United Kingdom.There you will find: \n\nTwenty six acres to explore\nA village complete with charismatic residents to chat with.\nTrams to ride.\nGames to play.\nThings being made.\n\nStories to hear about Black Country people – their triumphs to admire and troubles\, to be thankful that are not ours. \nIt will be time to be well spent. \nTransport\nWe will be using cars – details in due course where we will meet\, and we expect everybody to contribute to petrol\, but we believe this is so much better than the cost of a coach for this short trip on a long day. \nCost\nThe cost should be £12\, or £10 concession (65+). The event can be all day (10.30am until 5pm). We would like to arrange for the Introductory tour for the group at 10.30am. Firstly we must ensure for this discounted cost that we have sufficient support : we must be a group of at least 15. Mike Taylor will have more information at our meeting in September\, but if you can let him know of your interest beforehand\, that would be grand.
